Delilah iz needin' purrz

Delilah: "The big city doctor says I have torn my cranial cruciate ligament. This hurts my knee, making it unstable and I am unable to make my regular walks around the property.

Mommy says that the big city doc is coming down in August to perform a surgery!

She says we need help from other cats who have had this same injury... especially about how to stop me from jumping and going up and down stairs afterwords... for eight whole weeks.

I am trying to be brave but I am very afraid.
Mommy is afraid too.
But if I don't get the operation I won't walk right ever again.

I also am on a strict reducing diet.
I have already lost 10 ounces!!!
I am eating Royal Canin from my regular doc and you know what... it's not too bad.

Any purrs you can send my way will be much appreciated.
I don't know what I would do without the CB and my family at home.

I'm pretty lucky to have Dr Tweety for an uncle!"

(Don't tell Angus, but I weighed 20.6 pounds at the vets before I went on my new diet!!!!)

  2. I am sending lots and lots of healing purrs. Good luck for the operation. Keep still for 8 whole weeks is hard.

Keep up with the diet! You can send some lbs my way. I have trouble keep weight on, even in winter.

  4. Delilah, we will purr. We don't know much about keeping you from doing what you want (except for confinement which is nasty for that long) but we hope that others have ideas. I think for awhile you won't want to do a lot of that stuff and just gating things off (either no ups or no downs) may be good enough--but when you get going again, that might be hard.

  6. You can send some pounds my way too dearest Delilah! I only weigh 5 pounds and am real scrawny right now.
Gosh I am ever so sorry to read that you have to get an operation. I well remember mine and how worried mommy was. Now I am all better and I know you will be too...try not to worry too much and tell your mommy not to either. It serves no good and only wastes valuable time that could be spend snuggling up with those you love.
We love you all so much....

We still get treaties now and again but I think mum gives Flynn more than me because he is down to 13lbs and she doesn't want him to lose any more.

  9. We just saw this mentioned on another blog and came to offer our purrs and healing Light. We have no idea how you'll keep still for so long afterward, though, except by staying in a large crate. :-(

  10. Miss Delilah,
Our Felix had knee surgery this past February ($1600!) and he's back to almost 100% now. He was confined to a room with only low furniture to step up on and a low-sided litterbox for about a week, and then he was allowed out on supervised walks around the house for another week, and then he took it from there, but he slept confined in "his" room for a total of three weeks. Of course he's a skinny 13 pounder...
He had a pain patch for the first ten days and didn't feel up to doing much, anyway. And the pain meds really blunted his appetite so we had to coax him to eat and drink.

Mommy would be happy to talk if you need any help; email her at kittymom2AThotmailDOTcom.

  11. Delilah, we are sending healing and comforting purrs.

We are sorry we has no advice on how to keep an active cat inactive other than to keep the cat in a crate. When Scylla & Charybdis were little to keep them safe at night they were kept in a X-Large Dog Crate. It was big enough for a small litter box, cat bed and food and water.

  16. Oh Delilah we feel so bad for you! We don't know anything about knee things (at least in kitties - our mom has had a lot of problems, but humans are different). We can only suggest maybe using a gate to blog the upstairs - but then the other kitties can't get up there either. As far as jumping we have no idea - mom will sleep on the floor if we have surgery to keep us from jumping on the bed but it doesn't seem like it will work for that long.

We can help by sending you lots of get well purrs and prayers - be sure and tell us the day of the surgery so we can be purring extra loud that day!!

  25. Delilah, we're sorry your knee is hurting. We hope that big city doctor fixes you all up.

Scooter, the cat that came before us, had to have back surgery and wasn't supposed to jump and stuff afterwards. Mom kept him in a big dog crate at night and when she wasn't home to watch him. But the doctor told her it was hard to keep a cat from jumping. We think you'll do only what you're able to do....

    ReplyDelete
  26. Oh yeah, mom just remembered that she kept the stairs blocked with a gate and stuff to keep Scooter from climbing the stairs. And she would pick him up and put him on the bed or couch if he wanted to be there, but it was hard to keep him from jumping.

  27. Oh noes, Delilah! So sorry to hear about your knee injury and the surgery you will have to have soon.
Well, knee surgeries and recuperation is actually something I know quite a bit about. I had double luxating patellas and had to have surgeries on both knees. You can read all about it on my blog. I had to be crated for a long time. My mom would take me to work with her in a soft sided crate so I wouldn't be lonely during my long recovery. After the crate, I stayed in the master bedroom for a long time, secluded from the other kitties. My mom and dad built me steps to get up to the big bed...I still use them. Please contact me if you'd like. My vet actually had to perform a surgery on me that was similar to the repair of a dog's torn acl. Best of luck and lots of purrs to you!

  28. Oh Delilah, we wish you all the best for your surgery and recovery! I think you will know how much you can and can't do but it would probably be best if you stay on one floor, like upstairs so you can sleep with your beans. If they could build a ramp of pillows or bean bags up to the bed that would be great, so you can walk up a gentle, soft slope instead of jumping! But what I think you're more likely to do, though, is look at the lovely soft ramp, say "meowmphup!" and jump on the bed! I have nothing else - you're a cat and will do as you please, no doubt! :)xxx
